Geology of South-Central Utah (UGA-39)

South-central Utah is famous for its superb outcrops of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. In particular, strata of this region range in age from Triassic to early and mid-Tertiary and were deÂposited in a wide variety of environments including eolian, fluvial, marginal marine and marine environÂments. Tourists and scientists alike come from all over the world to view and study the breathtaking vistas created by the stratigraphy exposed in places like Cedar Breaks and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments and Zion, Capital Reef, and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Geologist in both academia and private industry flock to southern Utah to study the origins and economic potential of these accessible and wonderfully exposed rocks.
