This CD contains a 26-page report with a 9-page appendix in an easily readable PDF format that address ground-water conditions in the shallow unconfined aquifer in Cache Valley and provide recommendations for septic tank soil-absorption-system density based on potential water-quality degradation associated with septic tank use. A hydrologic investigation of the shallow aquifer system in Cache Valley was conducted to better understand the ground-water system within the aquifer. A steady-state ground-water flow model of the shallow aquifer was created using the USGS MODFLOW simulator. The model was used to simulate flow within and to estimate the volumetric flow of the shallow aquifer. A mass-balance analysis, using the volumetric flow from the model and an allowable degradation applied to nitrate, was used to determine the recommended septic-tank density for the shallow aquifer.
