The Utah Geological and Mineral Survey (UGMS) received funding for two years from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for landslide inventory work. UGMS intended to develop a standard report form and a manual for recording information about Utah landslides, and to store these data on a computer. The purpose of this part of the study was to compile information and collect examples from other organizations and agencies involved in similar projects to aid UGMS in developing its inventory program. UGMS was interested in the types of inventories, including the objectives, map scales, products, and data; the methodologies used; and the terminology used. The relative success of the inventorying process and resulting products was also surveyed.
