Building stone production in Sanpete County is significant, both currently and historically. This publication focuses specially on the limestone and dolomite resources found within the county borders. The primary stratigraphic units containing carbonates (limestone and dolomite) in Sanpete County are the Green River Formation, the Flagstaff Limestone, and the North Horn Formation. This study was commissioned by the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration to evaluate and summarize existing data and to included analyses of carbonate samples collected by the Utah Geological Survey.

This report discusses analystical data of carbonates, historical and current information on the building-stone industry, and distribution of high-calcium limestone and high-magneiusm dolomite samples collected throughout Sanpete County.
