The Valley City Quadrangle is located in east-central Utah, about 20 miles north of Moab, Utah in the Paradox basin fold and fault belt of the Colorado Plateau. Bedrock formations exposed in the quadrangle are Early Jurassic to Late Cretaceous in age. In ascending order these include the Navajo Sandstone, Entrada Sandstone, Summerville Formation, Morrison Formation, Cedar Mountain Formation, Dakota Sandstone, and Mancos Shale. Several of these units are divided into members. These units are underlain with the complement of formations commonly found in this part of the Colorado Plateau physiographic province. Several varieties of mostly thin surficial deposits have also been mapped. Information in this publication includes: a cross-section, a lithologic column, correlation of map units, and text describing the geologic history.

This Open-File release makes information available to the public during the review and production period necessary for a formal UGS publication. This map may be incomplete, and inconsistencies, errors, and omissions have not been resolved. While the document is in the review process, it may not conform to UGS standards; therefore it may be premature for an individual or group to take actions based on its contents.
