The Thatcher Mountain quadrangle is located in northwestern Utah, to the north of the eastern arm of the Great Salt Lake, about 18 miles south of the Idaho-Utah border. Part of the eastern Blue Springs Hills is located within this quadrangle. The Blue Springs Hills are a north-trending, low-relief mountain range in the northeastern Basin and Range Province. In this range, sedimentary rocks of the late Paleozoic Oquirrh basin and immediately overlying strata crop out; older rocks are not exposed at the surface. The rocks were folded and thrusted, probably during Mesozoic time, and Cenozoic high-and low-angle faults have modified the Mesozoic structures.
